Frequently Asked Questions

We know you probably have a lot of questions while you plan your trip. We’re here to help! Here’s just a few things folks typically ask about…

Do I need a license to hunt and fish?
Yes – anyone 16+ needs a NYS fishing license and any hunter must have a valid NYS hunting license. Fishing licenses are over the counter, while with a hunting license you need to either currently have a hunting license, have completed your NYS Hunter Safety Course, or have a valid hunting license in your home state. All licenses should be purchased ahead of time. We’re happy to help with this!

Is there an age requirement?
We ask that anyone fishing is at least 12 years of age. This is due to safety concerns, proper fitment of waders/boots, and due to the nature of wading in a moving river. The minimum age to hunt small game in NYS is 12 years old.

How far in advance do we need to book our trip?
We’re proud to have over an 85% re-booking rate! We suggest that you book as far in advance as possible! While we do have multiple guides, our calendar fills in fast. Due to the shorter season for grouse and woodcock, we typically book over a year in advance! Fishing should be booked a few months in advance.

I’ve never done this before… Is that alright?
Heck Yeah! We’d love to get you up ‘n running!

I don’t have any gear! Now what?
No worries! We’ve got enough gear to outfit a small army. We offer daily rentals for fishing waders, boots, fly rods, and reels. We also offer daily rentals for over/under and side by side shotguns.

Can we keep any fish?
We practice catch and release on all of our fishing trips. We often fish areas with thriving wild trout populations and we want to see this continue for generations to come!

Lunch? Snacks? Drinks? What’s the plan?
We’ve got you covered! Your guide will always have snacks and drinks available. We include a tailgate lunch on all full day hunts and lunch is an option on full day fishing trips.

Do you offer lodging?
We do not currently offer lodging – but stay tuned! This is something that we do plan to offer in the coming seasons! We have a list of some recommended accommodations, including our partner lodges/resorts, and we’re happy to suggest additional places to stay as needed.

What can we expect from the dogs? Can I bring my own dog?
Our guides run multiple breeds, both pointing and flushing – German Shorthairs, Pointers, Setters, & Labradors. We hold our dogs to a high standard and level of steadiness. We all have our dogs retrieve to hand and each dog is happily aggressive to the cover. Every dog has their unique personality and they’re all happy to hang out on the tailgate after the hunt. A little scratch behind the ear goes a long way!
You can absolutely bring your own bird dog! Pointing and flushing breeds can both be successful. Please let us know you’re looking to bring a dog so we can discuss expectations and make sure it will be beneficial.

I don’t get around as well as I used to… Is that okay?
Yes, that’s absolutely fine! We fish rivers and streams that are wader-friendly to just about everyone! Our grouse coverts have something for everyone, too! We have clients ranging from 12 to 83! If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.
