I’m overly passionate about the Catskill Mountains. The Esopus, however, has my heart. Ever since I began fishing this river in the Northeastern Catskills, I fell in love with it’s “Silver Bullets” and unassuming feeling. This river has lots of history and is often overlooked by anglers. I was scrolling through some of this year’s photos (some shown below) and it made me think back to the first wild Esopus rainbows I ever caught. These silver bullets fight like little (sometimes not so little!) steelhead and are such beautiful fish; the spots, their cheeks, the pink lateral line. We must cherish our wild Catskills trout. Practice catch and release on wild fish and pass on our fly fishing tradition.
