Esopus Update

Esopus Update

A quick update on the Esopus…

As I write this, the Esopus at Coldbrook is running at 418cfs and hit 66 degrees. Thankfully some cooler rain and lower air temperature is helping us out, but please be mindful of water temperature midday into evening. Carry a thermometer and when waters are nearing 68 degrees, head upstream or find cooler water.

The portal is currently releasing water at 241cfs and 57 degrees. The key to success may be fishing that cooler water near the portal. Don’t overlook riffled and pocket water this time of year – there are fish to be caught!

Hatches have been early and late – we have been seeing Olives, Sulphurs, Light Cahills, Caddis, and the occasional Isonychia still hovering around. Attractor nymphs and stimulators have been successful for many anglers. Don’t forget about emerger and cripple patterns, sometimes they can save your day!
