Back in the Catskills

Back in the Catskills

Well, I’m back in the Catskills after spending a week in beautiful Baja, Mexico! If course I got in a little fishing – it wasn’t easy! I’m very new to fly fishing the salt and casting from the beach was not easy. The high surf, the wind, and the hot sand all make for an interesting experience! It was a blast and I am absolutely going to try it again! We did a day on a Panga trolling the beaches with light tackle. Happy to say I hooked into a giant bull Dorado! I am unhappy to say after a heavy battle of getting the fish directly under the boat, a sea lion got to it first. The salt is certainly addicted and was a great change of pace. I encourage everyone to try fly fishing the salt water at least once!

Now back in the Catskills where I’ll spend two days on the water this week – the upper Esopus and the Upper West Branch of the Delaware! Excited to fish with and guide Jordan from the Chesapeake Bay area of Virginia. Also coming along will be my friend, Jeff, from the Albany area.

Reports to come. Tying flies this week to get ready!
