It was an amazing two days at Old Souls Trout Camp on the West Branch of the Delaware river! Anything that could happen, happened – waiting out a heavy thunderstorm for two hours at camp, catching beautiful rainbows down deep on size 20 nymphs, and of course great times with a good buddy!
There were a few lost fish and one broken hook (I’ll be back for round two with this big guy!) Overall, it was a great trip and we were able to try out my new Harbinger Rod Co competition nymph rods. I’ll be fishing a Harbinger 11′ and 10′ 3wt exclusively for any of my tight line/euro nymphing. They are extremely accurate, light, flex right down the middle and they handle fish like a dream.
Flies were size 16-20 nymphs for the most part. Pheasant tails, Frenchies, copper John’s and midges.
Flow is looking good and there’s some more rain coming this week – keep an eye out on weather!
If you haven’t seen or been to Old Souls in Cold Spring, NY make sure to take a look. They carry fly gear and a great selection of outdoor apparel, camping gear and anything else you might want or need.
